WHAT ABOUT THE “WAR SCYTHE”?

By EricAdamson

We’ve Already talked about war Swords, but they are in the Same tag

The war scythe and the scythe are totally different. Although one can be converted to the other and refashioned into something else, the war scythe remains a weapon that is specifically designed for warfare. The other is an agriculture tool. The war scythe is more similar to a standard bladed polearm, and works in the same way. It doesn’t look anything like the Grim Reaper scythe.

The War Scythe was Used in Various Times

Although the war scythe was used in various peasant rebellions across Europe, especially Eastern Europe, it was more because they were available than their effectiveness. You are a farmer and you do what you can travel thirsty.Combatants without any training can have an advantage with longarms/polearms. Polearms can be used as a base weapon and are an excellent choice. As a self-defense weapon, I will take a broom to a can mace. You can flip the broom handle around to make a staff.

It’s not going to be your first choice weapon. It falls under the “I have almost no other options, so this will do”.

You won’t find a Grim Reaper version for a battle knife. It won’t be used in a conventional manner, at least. There are many strange pockets, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be used in a similar way.

Due to the popularity of Grim Reaper, we have a special affection for scythes. Remember that the Grim Reaper is fictional, and the “weapon”, an agricultural implement. It is a symbol of harvesting, not murder, and shows the inevitable death that comes with the changing seasons. The Grim Reaper, a mythological figure that represents nature’s forces, is also a force.

WOULD SHARPENING A SCYTHE’S OTHER EDGE MAKE IT MORE EFFECTIVE THAN A WEAPON?

Not particularly. The best way to convert a scythe to a blade is to place it in line with its shaft and use it as an improvised bardiche or glaive. This is also where the warscythe originated. The warscythe was first used as an improvised polearm and then as a legit weapon.

SCYTHES ARE NOT ACTUALLY WAR SCYTHE WEAPONS, AND THEY ARE SUPER IMPRACTICAL

The shaft is a problem. Many farm scythes gavin newsom recall that I have seen over the years have contoured handles. Sometimes, they even have separate fore grips. These are intended to make the scythe easier to use in repeated horizontal harvesting motions, but severely limit its utility as a weapon.

The simplest way to repurpose a scythe is to reverse the blade so that it hooks away. This would give you a bit more range and could be useful in catching or injuring infantry.
